posting comments

I’ve just updated my settings so that you don’t have to have a wordpress login to make comments on the blog. So…comment away!

Of course I didn’t figure it out until mom went through the trouble of starting an account just to comment – sorry mom.

boy’s or girl’s room?

stella nursery

stella bedding

While I’m on the subject of nursery inspiration, this bedding in the latest Pottery Barn Kids catalog really caught my eye. A few moms I know have picked neutral bedding even when they knew their baby’s gender so that they could use it for their next child as well. I think its a very smart and practical idea and I think this nursery might be neutral enough to work. However, PBK doesn’t think its neutral and has designated it for one gender. So, since I’ve already been biased by their marketing, I’m curious what other people think. Does this nursery look particularly too boy or girl? (don’t click the PBK link until you’ve made up your mind!)

beautiful nursery

littlemama nursery

I came across these photos of an absolutely beautiful nursery quite a while back on Mama Said Shop. It is a fabulous design blog focused on babies and children and will definitely be one of my top resources for decorating our nursery. I love the colors of this room and think it could be perfect for a baby boy or girl.

milestone birthday

Recently my good friend Beth approached me about doing an invitation for her mother’s 60th birthday. She wanted to incorporate photos of her mom, both as a young child and as an adult, in a way that would be fun for her milestone birthday. I instantly thought of an invitation I had designed for my grandma’s 80th birthday a few years back and thought a more modern interpretation would be perfect for Beth’s mom. The funny thing is that I remembered the original invitation being much more striking than it actually was and I was surprised that my typography skills had grown so much in the past 4 years. I think the latest version of the invitation far surpasses the original and I’m considering developing a line of similar milestone invitations.

I would like to introduce you to my cousin’s new baby, Jacob. He was born last night at 9:54pm and weighed in at 9lbs! He is 22″long and looks an awful lot like his daddy. Welcome to the world baby Jacob and congratulations to your very lucky mom and dad.

number print - baby boy elephants number print - baby girl flowers

Recently I attended baby showers for two Sarahs, my cousin and my good friend. After seeing many cute alphabet and number posters like this and this from Binth and these from Robin Rosenthal, I decided to create my own to give as gifts. My cousin Sarah is expecting a boy any time now and owns the elephant print. My friend Sarah has the flower print hanging in the nursery of her sweet little girl, Sydney.

Here is a photo from about 4 weeks ago when we saw our little boy or girl for the very first time. We were able to see the little arms and legs and watch the tiny heartbeat flicker.

welcome to my haus

I’ve been wanting to start a blog for some time but had trouble deciding what my focus would be. I’m a avid reader of many design blogs and would love to contribute to that community, while at the same time I would like a place where I can update friends and family on my personal life. I always thought I would have to choose one or maintain multiple blogs, however in recent months I’ve come across some lovely blogs that manage to do both in an inspiring and interesting way. Also in the last few months, I’ve finally found my inspiration to get myself in gear and get started – I’m expecting a baby!

I’ve read that many blogs are important to only two people, the blogger and the blogger’s mother. If that is the case with this blog, that is surely good enough for me. Mom and I will have a wonderful time. However, if you’re reading this and you’re not my mother, welcome and I hope you will enjoy.
